As rival Flipkart launches its Big 10 sale, Amazon India has wrapped up its online summer festival, which it claims has been the largest in terms of growth and sales for the e-commerce player this year, surpassing its last sale in January.
With the biggest opening day of the year for the company, the four-day sale saw a significant increase over the etailer’s January sale. This momentum was buttressed by purchases made in tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Singrauli, Muzaffarnagar, and Shivpuri, which grew by a whopping 235%. This came on top of an 85% growth for Amazon achieved during Q1 of 2017.
“We are amazed at the response to the Great Indian Sale,” said VP – Category Management at Amazon India, Manish Tiwary in a statement. “In addition to new customer acquisition in smaller towns, this sale also resulted in important brand partners witnessing large sales spikes of up to 90X, led by fashion, consumer electronics,” he added.
